Carol's rags-to-riches story started out in San Antonio, Texas, on April 26, 1933, where she was born to Ina Louise and Joseph Thomas "Jodie" Burnett, both of whom suffered from acute alcoholism. As a child, she was left in the care of a beloved grandmother, who shuttled the two of them off to Hollywood, California, where they lived in a boarding house and shared a great passion for the Golden Age of movies. The plaintive, loose-limbed, highly sensitive Carol survived her wallflower insecurities by grabbing attention as a cut-up at Hollywood High School. A natural talent, she attended the University of California and switched majors from journalism to theater. Scouting out comedy parts on TV and in the theater, she first had them rolling in the aisles in the mid-1950s performing a lovelorn novelty song called "I Made a Fool of Myself Over John Foster Dulles" in a nightclub act.

In her memoir "One More Time", she states the name of the manager who so rudely fired her, followed by an epithet that won't be repeated here. The Golden Globes will air live coast-to-coast on Tuesday, Jan. 10 from 5-8 p.m. The show is produced by dick clark productions and Jesse Collins Entertainment in association with the HFPA. Collins and Dionne Harmon, one of the top executives in his company, will serve as executive producers. Murphy was credited for introducing modern audiences to songs they may not have known – from other genres and other generations. The show’s 2010 medley of “Umbrella” by Rihanna featuring Jay-Z and Gene Kelly’s 1952 classic “Singing in the Rain” is an example of the show’s musical reach.

In a Western Horseman cover story in 2019, Marion’s attachment to the ranch was deep and lifelong. In her youth, Marion said growing up on the ranch was one of the most important things that had happened to her because of the discipline, work and experience it provided. Like her father, Miss Anne was a keen judge of both horses and cattle.
In fact, it was Roosevelt, during a trip to Texas in 1910, who encouraged the town of Nesterville to be renamed “Burkburnett” in honor of his friend. In the spring of 1905, Roosevelt came west for a visit to the Indian lands and the ranchers whom he had helped. Burk Burnett, his son Tom, and a small group of ranchers entertained the old Roughrider in rugged Texas style. The highlight of the visit was an unusual bare-handed hunt for coyotes and wolves.
